Maine Whitewater Championships

Since 2012, Maine Whitewater Championships (MWWC) been the ultimate New England destination for thrill-seekers and paddling enthusiasts from around the country and beyond. Don’t miss the chance to experience the rush and beauty of Maine’s rivers!

MWWC is a series of three whitewater events that kicks off with Smalls to the Wall race the third weekend of April. This extreme kayak race consists of five waterfalls ranging from 5-20′ in less than 1/4 of a mile. With a roadside venue and easy access, these waterfalls are a kayaker’s dream.

Two events in August will round out the series. Racers will first compete on the Kennebec River in The Forks, Maine on August 10th. This event consists of a time trial through the Kennebec Gorge, from Harris Station to Magic Falls, followed by a mass start race from Cathedral Rapid to the bottom of Magic Falls. Racers will paddle fast through this class III gorge, dodging rafts and flying over big waves to compete to be the fastest paddler on the Kennebec. Awards are held in conjunction with the West Forks River Fest, the east coast’s newest whitewater festival!

The last event of the year is held on the West Branch of the Penobscot River outside of Millinocket, Maine on August 17th. This event is held in the shadow of Katahdin Mountain, and provides a beautiful venue for a class V whitewater race. Racers will start with a time trial through the infamous Gorge-Crib section of the Penobscot, followed by a slalom race through the Cribworks Rapid.
